Twelve-cylinder car engines were invented to “make power invisible.” I drove a trio of iconic vintage 1970s Jaguar V-12s—a ’73 XJ, a ’74 E-Type, and a ’78 XJ-C— to uncover how these silkily thrusty power-plants influenced Jaguar’s forthcoming electric super-sedan.
