If a population of Hawaiian crickets can evolve to stop chirping, cars should be able to make similarly radical leaps. These 10 batshit outliers certainly did. [Part 5 in my 10-part series for Road & Track.]
The Evolution of Automotive Advertising
Aspiration. Sexism. Jingoism. Dystopias. You’ll find it all in The Evolution of Automotive Advertising, my latest historical survey for Road & Track.
Automotive Evolution
The first three (out of ten) pieces I wrote for a Road & Track series on automotive evolution went live today. They’re very funny.
– The Evolution of Automotive Comfort
– The Evolution of Automotive Safety
– The Evolution of Automotive Fashion
I Take Over Road & Track
I have three articles in the new, re-launch issue of this month’s Road & Track magazine. This makes sense, since I’m now a contributing editor to the magazine. One is a feature story on why today’s youth hate cars, one is a little interview with G.M.’s Chris Webb about why he loves his toothbrush, and one is an even littler series of interviews with Paul Goldberger and Richard Phillips on why they love the Lamborghini Miura. If you care about me at all, you should probably just buy the magazine–it’s on newsstands now. Or if you’re a chintzy bitch, you can just look at the crappy scans below.
Driving the 1910 Prinz Heinrich Benz
The 1910 Prinz Heinrich Benz Race Car is a Pain in the Ass to Drive, but Well Worth It. My latest for Road & Track, including a stellar video of the car being started and actually driving down a tree-lined street.
Steal a Car, Escape the Apocalypse
My first piece for Road & Track. An interview with Sam Sheridan, author of “The Disaster Diaries: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Apocalypse.” Read it.
